Advance in Artificial Intelligence (AI) has huge potential for hospitality
07/02/2023
A recent survey has shown that the fastest-rising wages in the UK over the past decade have been in the hospitality sector, with average weekly earnings for full-time workers rising 53 per cent from £328 per week in 2012 to £502 per week in 2022.
This is good news for those workers who often work long and unsociable hours but now advances in technology, especially in areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), are making the sector less dependent on numbers. AI has only recently advanced to the point where it can be considered reliable enough to deploy for important business tasks.
Today, the collection of customer data, combined with the improvements to computer technology, means that AI can be utilised for a huge range of functions, from basic customer service to personalisation tasks, sales processes and direct messaging to clients about reservations and availability.
Potential benefits of AI include:
Chatbots and Messaging
Many of us have used chatbots already. They allow customers to ask questions and get almost instantaneous responses, 24/7. They could range from offering menus to table availability.
Hiring and staff retention
As many functions become automated. Concentrating on being more selective with candidates will bring its own rewards with less turnover and staff feeling better valued through better pay and working conditions.
By keeping staff retention as high as possible, you can reduce the costs of advertising new roles, while having stability and building a positive workplace culture.
