Kerthana Prakash

“I chose to apply to WMT as they could offer me an ACA training contract so I could work practically towards my qualification. I wanted to train at a small to medium-sized firm as thought that would provide me with a more in-depth and varied training experience than the bigger firms could.

I saw the position advertised online and applied directly through the WMT website. After completing some online tests, I was invited in for an interview. I was interviewed by the audit partner and managers, completed some further tests and then had a second interview with the Managing Partner – all in one day!”

Kerthana started her training in January 2015 alongside fellow graduate Luke Taylor. Kerthana is now over half way through her training and is part-qualified. She is due to sit her final exams in November 2018.

“The highlight of my time so far has been achieving my part-qualified status. It has helped being able to put the theory I learn at college into practice on real client work and vice versa.

I started off working as part of the accounts team, then made the move to the audit team. It was difficult getting my head around the audit process at first, but I was well supported by the senior team and partners throughout and am now a comfortable with the audit requirements.    

Although the work is sometimes challenging, there is a good balance between client work and training. The atmosphere in the office is friendly and comfortable, but everyone works hard to ensure client requests are met.“

Alongside her ACA training Kerthana has also had the opportunity to train with HAT Group, both in the office and on external courses.  On completing her training, she plans to work to develop her technical knowledge and all-round capabilities to work towards a managerial position.
