Probate and Administration of Estates

The passing of a relative or close friend can be an upsetting and difficult time.  Dealing with the administrative burden of their legal and financial affairs can add to the strain of an already distressing situation.  Our probate service, run by Paula Jeffs, an authorised probate adviser offers a personal touch and can help guide you through the probate process.

If you are an executor for the deceased’s estate, or you know someone who has been nominated to carry out this duty, we can help.

At WMT we are licensed to provide probate and estate administration services and we can support you as much or as little as you need to administer probate. We can provide an estimate for the fees which are based on the amount of work required and the complexity of the estate.

The type of work WMT can assist the executors with includes:

Obtain a Grant of representation

  • Assist with establishing the value of the deceased estate including the value of property, shares, and goods to determine how much tax is due. Prepare the appropriate inheritance tax forms and calculate any inheritance tax due on the estate
  • Prepare the probate application forms and submit the application to the Probate office

Distribute the assets to the beneficiaries of the estate

  • Assist with distributing the assets of the estate in accordance with the Will or the correct allocation as per the legal position if there is no Will.

Prepare the estate accounts

  • Prepare Estate accounts, if required which will give details of the estate as at the date of death and all movements in and out of the estate between that date and the date of distribution to the beneficiaries.

Tax returns to date of death and for the Period of Administration

  • We can also prepare any outstanding tax returns or establish any tax liability or tax repayment due as at the date of death, as part of establishing the assets/liabilities of the deceased as at the date of death. Combining expertise in accountancy and tax related matters can make the probate process more cost effective.

Our fees and the work undertaken

The table below provides an estimate of fee ranges based on typical situations and complexity.  We do not level fees based on the value of the estate as is the case with a number of banks and solicitors.
