Probate Accountant

The passing of a relative or close friend can be an upsetting and difficult time. Dealing with the administrative burden of their legal and financial affairs can add to the strain of an already distressing situation. Our probate service relieves the pressure.

The probate process can be complicated and take several months to finalise. At WMT we understand how difficult it can be to handle your loved ones’ legal and financial affairs at a time when you are coming to terms with your own bereavement. Enlisting our support will lighten the burden.

If you are a personal representative for the deceased’s estate, or you know someone who has been nominated to carry out this duty, we can help.

At WMT we are licensed to provide probate and estate administration services. Our specialist tax team, sensitive to your needs and emotions, will support you as much or as little as you need to administer probate. WMT can:

Find the Will – if a Will has been written, but cannot be found in the person’s home, we can help locate it via a thorough search of registered and unregistered Wills in the UK.

Apply for grant of representation – we calculate the value of the estate including the value of property, shares, and goods to determine how much tax is due. We then complete and submit inheritance tax and probate application forms on your behalf.

Administer the estate – once grant of probate has been issued we will contact the organisations that hold the deceased’s assets – banks, building societies etc.

Prepare the estate accounts – released assets are used to clear debts and outstanding tax due on the estate. Estate accounts are prepared to ensure the beneficiaries are happy to accept the amount left to them and confirm no further call on the estate.

Distribute the assets to the beneficiaries of the estate – in accordance to the details of the Will, or by law if there is no Will.

Our accountancy and tax specialists are experienced in gathering and calculating financial and tax related information, making the probate process more cost effective.
