Business Club: Successful business systems projects
Effective use of systems and technology is central to the success of a modern business. As technology evolves, it brings new opportunities to make your business more efficient, more agile and more profitable.
However, according to a recent report from the Project Management Institute (PMI), 14% of systems projects fail. Of the projects that didn’t fail outright, 31% didn’t meet their goals, 43% exceeded their initial budgets, and 49% were late.
Despite the bleak picture painted by the stats, the effect a well-executed project can have on a business hugely outweighs the dangers of taking on the project in the first place.
But how can you make the most of these opportunities, balance the risk and ensure your systems deliver all that they promise?
At the next Business Club, we will be joined by WMT’s new Business Systems Director, Simon Gurney. Combining his systems consulting skills with his training as a chartered accountant, Simon works with business owners and IT teams to help them improve how their businesses work and how their systems and technology support them.
Simon has led, and successfully completed, a variety of systems projects, lasting anything from 3 months to 3 years. Drawing on experience gained across several industries, he will discuss the reasons why systems transformation projects fail to keep their promises and outline his tips for executing a successful project.
