Have you received a tax return request from HMRC?
27/06/2019
Over the last few weeks HMRC has informed 3,000 charities that it will require them to complete a tax return this year.
The returns requests are being sent to charities making large gift aid claims and to a random sample of other charities and amateur sports clubs. The returns will need to show the exemptions that the charity is claiming and whether any corporation tax is due.
For many charities, this will be the first time that they have completed a tax return. If you receive such a request, please do not ignore it as you will be charged a penalty if the return is late.
It is still uncertain whether this will be a one-off compliance review or whether tax return requests for charities will become a more regular occurrence.
