WMT helps combat social exclusion with donation to Emmaus St Albans
After a busy year of fundraising activity WMT are delighted to present local homeless charity, Emmaus St Albans, with a cheque for £1,661.
Emmaus St Albans were nominated by the team at WMT as their ‘charity of the year’ at the beginning of the 2017-18 financial year. A worthy cause, the charity aims to provide a stable environment and meaningful work that helps people find their way out of homelessness or social exclusion.
In return for shelter and support, Emmaus’ ‘companions’ work within the charity’s social enterprise to refurbish and resell donated furniture. This brings funds into the community and helps companions become self-sufficient.
Over the course of the year the team at WMT raised funds through a number of fun activities. These have included a spooky Halloween bake sale, Christmas afternoon tea, crafting sessions and a raffle of donated gifts.
Clients and friends of the firm have also supported the cause with generous donations. These included £130 from David Cox of DHC Properties Limited, and a meal for two from the prestigious Langan’s Brasserie.
The money raised will be used to complete the finishing touches to four new companion rooms in the Emmaus St Albans centre. It will also be put towards a new dust extraction system in the workshop used by companions to refurbish and upcycle furniture to be sold in the Emmaus shop.
Emmaus Chief Executive, Tony Ferrier, commented on the donation:
“I would like to thank everyone at WMT who has raised a fantastic total value of £1,661 for Emmaus over the last year. I am aware of the time and effort that goes on behind the scenes in raising this amount and it is very much appreciated.”
For 2018 WMT will spread their fundraising efforts more broadly to offer financial support to a wider range of local charities close to the hearts of our team members.
