WMT support Emmaus St Albans as charity of the year in 2017
03/07/2017
WMT Chartered Accountants is delighted to announce their support of Emmaus St Albans as their charity of the year for 2017.
Emmaus charity provides a stable environment for people who are experiencing homelessness or social exclusion. With 28 communities across the UK they pride themselves on providing ‘more than just a bed for the night’ for those in need.
In return for shelter and support, Emmaus’ companions are expected to work within the charities social enterprise – refurbishing and reselling donated furniture. This funds the community and helps people to move on from homelessness to become self-sufficient and care for themselves and others.
Dedicated to supporting the local community, as a ‘friend of Emmaus St Albans’, WMT will give their time to the charity and raise funds for additional bedrooms. This will enable the centre to house and support four more companions.
WMT’s support for Emmaus St Albans will run alongside WMT’s continued support of the St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust, for whom WMT raised £1,700 in 2016.
WMT’s managing partner, Andrew Williamson commented;
Emmaus was chosen as our charity of the year by our staff. Homelessness and social exclusion is an increasing issue within St Albans and the wider community. Emmaus not only provide shelter to those who need it most, but equip them with the skills they need to get themselves back on track. We look forward to contributing to their good work.
A representative from Emmaus commented;
We at Emmaus St Albans are very grateful to WMT for choosing us as their charity of the year, and for their commitment in helping raise funds so we can support more formerly homeless people, by giving them a home and getting their lives back on track. This is also a great way to raise awareness of Emmaus St Albans and the homeless situation in our community and further afield, which is just as important.
