Trainee programme – school leaver
Our trainee programme is the ideal way to become a qualified and experienced accountant.
School leavers have traditionally gone on to study at university before considering taking accountancy qualifications; as an exciting alternative our school leaver programme enables you to train towards respected professional qualifications and get invaluable commercial experience. You’ll enjoy a permanent salaried position with your tuition costs fully covered and paid study leave.
For the first two years, you’ll study towards the AAT qualification whilst receiving comprehensive training and experience a wide variety of clients, working in our office and at client premises. If you pass all your exams, over the following four years you will progress towards the Chartered Association of Chartered Accountants (ACA) qualification to become a chartered accountant.
Our training is of the highest quality to ensure that you maximise your potential. External tutors with extensive experience provide your professional qualification training. Soft-skills training is also provided through a variety of one day workshops covering areas such as professional identity and impact, prioritisation, verbal and written skills and problem solving. In addition, in-house training on technical and personal skills is given throughout your career with WMT.
Support & development
Everyone on our trainee programme enjoys a fully supported learning and working environment throughout their training contract and beyond. On joining, you will be allocated an individual counselling manager who will help you to settle in, ensure that you are given appropriate work and monitor your progress.
From the very beginning, you’ll be involved in the full range of our accountancy services. This means that whilst you develop expertise in one area, you will also have the opportunity to work with other teams within WMT. You’ll gain experience and knowledge across all the services we offer, so that you understand the many ways we can help clients.
You’ll work closely with colleagues so that you can be truly proactive in achieving the best possible results for clients. From the beginning of your trainee programme, you will liaise directly with clients. Clear, confident communication skills are essential – on the phone, face to face and in writing.
Who should apply for our school leaver trainee programme?
Are you self-motivated, have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team?
If you’ve answered ‘yes’ and have – or expect to have – 120 UCAS points in three A-level subjects, we’d love to hear from you.
